Summer season is just around the corner and thought of the sweltering heat leaves us sweating. With the soaring temperatures, it gets tough to grapple with the summertime. What comes as a respite is the idea of taking a refreshing dip in the water. Isn’t it? Don’t we all make plans to go kayaking, river rafting, scuba diving or snorkeling? Don’t we all look forward to joining some swimming classes just to get away with the cruel sun and relax? If no, you are definitely kidding’ me.
Well, people who are enthusiastic about water sports have a variety of options to look for spending their summer vacations. But again, the adventurous lot is anxious about not knowing how to swim for scuba diving or snorkeling. Let’s see how much of it is true.
Scuba Diving
Scuba Diving and swimming are two very different activities. While swimming keeps you afloat on the water, diving is all about exploring the depths of it. Swimming is about using your arms, on the other hand, diving is about making use of your fins. So, practically you wouldn’t be needing the swimming lessons if you want to kick-start your diving act. But both of them do share one thing in common – the basic kicking style.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling is another fun activity that does provide you with a luxurious and thrilling experience. All you need is a mask, snorkel tube, fins, and some amount of friendliness for water. Although swimming and snorkeling seem similar, they are not. Again, snorkeling is concerned with floating on the surface so swimming shouldn’t be a necessary prerequisite.
But if you think that you can get straight into deep waters without a whiff about swimming, you might end up getting stuck in a disaster. Why you would ask? Here are the reasons:
- There is a potential risk for a non-swimmer to panic once they get inside the deep waters. Swimmers are confident about being in the water. This confidence itself works wonders.
- Swimmers are much more adept at adapting to the changing weather conditions. Do you think that as a non-swimmer you have it in you?
- Swimmers are far more at ease with the ocean currents and hence, would be able to correct their course.
I hope that now you aren’t intent on experimenting with your aquatic sports without any prior knowledge. Please don’t. Chuck off your worry and get yourself the basic swim coaching to be able to get into the gaping water bodies.
