This diet has a very cleansing effect on the body, Satvik food comprises the diet of sages, spiritual teachers and yogis. The Satvik diet consists of soothing, light and easily digested food. They include food like fruits, vegetables, sun food and ground food.

Organic Fruits: This includes apple, mango, banana, guava, berries, strawberry, dates, melons, peach, lemon, plums, oranges and apricot. Organic fruits are considered especially Satvik food. These fruits are undertaken by the yogis when they are under fast or they are doing special sadhanas. These fruits are naturally low in fat, calories and sodium. Fruits contain many essential nutrients like vitamin C, folic acid, potassium and fibre. Fruits also reduce the blood cholesterol level and hence reduce the chances of heart attacks. This is an important Satvik food that must be consumed today to repair all the blood cells and tissues from the body.
Sweeteners: Two natural sweeteners that were used as Satvik food are Raw Honey and Raw Sugar. Both of these products do not raise the blood sugar level. Increase in weight leads to many diseases. Natural sweeteners like raw honey and raw sugar maintain the body weight and hence protect you from many diseases. Raw honey is truly a super food and is actually very yummy.
Fresh Organic Dairy: Although the dairy products are controversial these days. Satvik food insists on the value of food given by the symbol of motherhood that is Cow. Nuts, Seeds and Oil: Nuts and seeds are an important Satvik food. Always keep in mind that the nuts and seeds you are consuming should not be overcooked, over roasted and over salty. These should be consumed in small portions. Almonds can be soaked and peeled in water overnight and can be consumed in the morning. Flax seeds, sesame seeds, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds and walnuts are some of the good choices. Oils should be cold pressed and of high quality. Legumes: Yellow split peas, beans sprout, aduki beans, split mung beans, organic tofu and lentils are considered Satvik food if prepared well. Satvik Spices: Satvik food includes cardamom, cumin, fresh ginger, basil, coriander, fenugreek, turmeric, cinnamon and cumin. There are another category Rajasic spices used with tamasic food. This food is not equal to Sattwa. The spices that are used in Rajasic spices are red pepper, garlic and black pepper.
Satvik Herbs: Calamus, gingko, ashwagandha, jatamansi, bacopa, gotu kola, shatavari, purnarnava, tulsi, saffron, shankhapushpi and rose are some Satvik Herbs.
