Running is almost like an art form. It requires speed, agility, precision and off course top-level fitness. Following is a list of some of the best runners in the world, in no particular order.
- David Warner
It is a common sight to see David Warner run like a hound on the field. He is credited with completing some nearly impossible runs in his career.
His secret is short and sharp training sessions, according to his coach Wayne Geber. He wakes up at 5 am every day without fail and trains with his coach for 30 minutes at a time.
- Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli almost appears to be weightless while he is running on the field. Its sheer joy to see him taking off for scoring a single or double on the field.
So, what is his secret?
It is openly known that Kohli cannot deny food. He is a big foodie. A big part of his diet is mineral water! He eats everything he wants to and then sheds it all off at the gym. His fitness routine consists of weight training and cardio.
- Ricky Ponting
If Kohli appears to be weightless on the field, then Ricky Ponting appears to be boneless! While he is running, he seems to be carrying a feather weight!
So, how does Ricky do it?
He is known to indulge in “conditioning” programs before any cricket tournament. These conditioning programs are meant to get him adapted to “hot” and “humid” conditions. Australia’s climate is very different and raining is quite frequent there. Compare that to the climate in countries like India and Kenya and you will know why he does these conditioning programs.
- Dwayne Bravo
No angle is too difficult for Dwayne Bravo on the field. He is known to bent himself into any angle possible and score runs.
Dwayne Bravo’s secret is endurance training on a regular basis for 30 minutes. He is also known to be big lover of mangoes!
- Jonty Rhodes
Undoubtedly the greatest fielder in the game of cricket, Jonty Rhodes has been the idol of many aspiring cricketers. Known for his swift movements and agility, Rhodes still doesn’t have a worthy replacement.
According to Rhodes himself, on the field, he often felt he could fly! In order to keep up this feeling, Rhodes has made some great sacrifices.
In the year 2015, Jonty Rhodes completely went off non-vegetarian food in order to lose weight and increase muscle. He ate a lot of peanuts, baked beans and sprouts for achieving this.
- AB De Villiers
AB De Villiers is known to make runs out of virtually impossible situations. He is also one of the fastest cricketers in the world, be it his fielding or his strike rate.
AB De Villiers doesn’t believe in practising too much before a match. He believes in training for 20 minutes at a time. In one session, he concentrates on one particular area only.
- Mohammed Kaif
Mohammed Kaif is usually so quiet on the field that you don’t notice him till he does something. But it was his sprinting on the field which caught everybody’s attention.
Kaif is a big believer in doing yoga and practices Surya Namaskar on a daily basis. He believes that it is a complete workout which doesn’t need any training equipment!
- Herschelle Gibbs
Herschelle Gibbs is the rare cricketer who applied precision even when he was fielding. The same precision wasn’t there while he batted though.
Herschelle Gibbs credits his precision as a fielder to “enjoying his fitness”. Like any other cricketer, he also goes to the gym for workouts. He believes in enjoying his workouts and the results show by themselves.
- Andrew Symonds
Symonds is one of those cricketers who aren’t just a presence on the field. He is more of a “massive force”, nothing short of a battle tank! In spite of being built like a truck, he could run and dive like a deer would.
Symonds is known to be quite a drinker. Surprisingly, his drinking habits never came in the way of his fitness. He believed in building muscles and doing intense workouts at one go. “Too fast, too furious” is a perfect caption for him maybe.
- M S Dhoni
M S Dhoni and his speed are inseparable on the field. It is almost like his speed is a different entity, supporting him throughout.
So, what does Dhoni to achieve such speed?
- He measures the amount of fat he eats in one day
- He plays football and badminton regularly
- He avoids soft drinks and prefers fruit juices instead
- His favourite food is simple dal-chawal
- He is a big believer in protein powders
